Did someone tell you that this would be easy?

…that’s what my requirements analyst said to me today. I think it was during telecon number three, or perhaps it was in one of the many e-mails we exchanged (I’ve lost count).

To make a long story short, my project blew up to epic proportions this week. The guy who was in charge of the project is on vacation while I try to figure out what ran over me, backed up, and ran over me again. I was only supposed to act as a voice between our customer and the team, but for the past three days, my life has been nothing but strategy, scheduling, and conference calls. The hectic schedule is very different from my previous job so it’s a bit of an adjustment, but I’m ready for it. I have at least 8 hours of work ahead of me this weekend and while I’m not exactly excited about it, it’s not unlike graduate school homework.

My response to the analyst was no, no one said that this would be easy. I don’t want easy. Easy numbs my brain. Easy is BORING.

Dear 2009, 2010 is already kicking your hiney

This site is a reincarnation of an old blog that dealt with some things in my life that were a bit too personal for the internet. So while I’m sure I’ll still talk about some of it, I made those entries private and I’m starting over. I don’t want to sound too mysterious or cryptic, but 2009 kicked my butt with an overwhelming amount of loss. I had a miscarriage in February and attended five funerals in a few months. Both of my grandparents passed away within a month of each other, and there were three other deaths on James’ side of the family.

As the title of this post declares, 2010 has already proven to be a better year. There has been a lot going on in the past few months alone: I finally finished graduate school and I start an exciting new job tomorrow. I ran my first 5k and traveled back to Costa Rica with my husband and two of our best friends. I’m very excited about the rest of 2010 and what the future holds.

graduate!

Tonight is my MBA graduation from The University of Mary Washington. It’s taken four years but I wouldn’t change a thing. By taking my time, I really allowed myself to digest what I was learning (well, except for Quantitative Business Modeling) and still have a life. My parents, sister, James, Nichole, and in-laws will all be there to watch me receive my hood and I’m so excited and thankful!

I saw her play at the 930 club earlier this week and she rocked my world. I’m pretty sure that it was the best live show I’ve ever seen/heard. Her audience interaction was fun and playful…but her voice was the star of the show. I didn’t want it to end. She’s one of the rare singers that sounds better live than on a recording.
